There are both automatic and manual transmission vehicles available to rent in the 2-berth and 4-berth campers. The larger 5-berth and 6-berth are manual transmission only.

Most sites are accessible in a two-wheeled vehicle but we do offer the 4x4 option for those wanting to travel on some of the more inaccessible place on the island. The Jeep with tent is an option.

Most first time visitors to Iceland follow the Route 1 which is a circular ring road right around Iceland and is approximately 1300kms long so allow at least 10days.

Is driving difficult in Iceland?

We strongly advise taking things a bit slower when driving in Iceland. Many roads in Iceland are loose gravel. Slow down when changing from asphalt to gravel roads. Slow down when a car comes towards you on a gravel road. Bridges and roads are often single track.

Always check the weather conditions every day before setting off. Weather conditions in Iceland change rapidly. The wind conditions can be treacherous and you need to be parked up facing into the wind and wait until the wind has dropped before setting off.
