Some useful advice about driving around Sydney and Australia.

  • Avoid travelling at night, dawn or dusk. There are very large animals that wander the roads at night. Australia's animals are on the move at night and can unexpectedly appear in front of you and can be difficult to miss.
  • Bull Dust is a fine dust that is hard to avoid. Make sure your windows and doors are closed when driving on rough tracks and roads.
  • Multi-lane highways and motorways allow you to overtake in any lane.
  • T-zones are for vehicles with more than 2 people.
  • Toll Roads in Sydney you will need an e-tag to pay for these as cash is not accepted. You will need to pay a toll to cross the Sydney Harbour Bridge or use the tunnel.
  • Don't drink and drive. This seems obvious but there are random breathalyser tests in Sydney.
  • Mobile Phone Use while driving will incur a heavy fine. Stay within the speed limit and make sure everyone is wearing a seat belt.
  • ParkingAlways park on the left-hand side of the road. Check the time that you can park. If the parking sign says 3P then you can park for three hours. If it says 2P then parking is available for two hours only.
  • What is a "Servo" or "Roadstation? These are filling stations or service stations where you buy fuel for your campervan.

A word about reviews.

We publish our star rating with reviews on every listing that we host on our booking engine. These are independent reviews left by our customers after they have travelled. Searching the internet for reviews of a specific company will generate lists of reviews from Trip Advisor and similar sites. Please check the age of these reviews before taking note and also read a few reviews to get a full impression about the rental company. There are many old reviews still on the internet. Look for recent reviews and not those that are 11 years old!

Spaceships recommends Lane Cove Caravan Park. Ella's List is a popular website for family orientated activities and places to stay.

You have to have enough seat belts for everyone and you have to have enough beds for everyone to sleep in. Choose the campervan that has enough single and double beds to suit you.

We also list the interior height of our campervans and motorhomes so if you are travelling with a tall person it will make their holiday more relaxing if they can stand up inside.

Next, decide if you need to have an onboard shower and toilet. This will narrow your choice. The smaller hitops, low-tops, SUVs and camping cars do not have onboard facilities.

How much is your budget? If you have to stick to a budget then choose the newest camper or motorhome you can afford. Newer campers are more expensive than older campers and book early to get cheaper rates.

Why Book a Campervan Rental in Sydney with Budgetcampervans.com?

Why does it take so long to go through the collection process at the depot?

During peak season in Sydney, there are large numbers of travellers all arriving at the same time to collect their campervan. The staff at the depot have to check paperwork, driving licences and rental agreements before they take you to the campers. Once there they will show you how everything in the vehicle works and make sure you know where everything is.

This process of checking in can be speeded up by making sure that when you book you have provided all the essential information needed before setting off. You will need your passport and driving licence numbers, name of passengers and everything we list in our booking process.

Please be patient and allow at least three hours for this process. It sometimes happens a lot quicker but this is not like renting a car as there is more paperwork to process and if you are familiar with driving and living in a campervan then you won't need as much time spent on explaining everything to you.

If you are arriving after a long-haul flight you may be tired so you may want to stay in a local hotel before you collect your campervan so you are refreshed and ready to start your holiday.

Fees for one-way rentals from Sydney.

One way rental fees or relocation fees are not always charged by Australian rental suppliers if you are going from Sydney to Brisbane, Melbourne or Adelaide.
