I have seen the pictures of the roof tents but how do you put them up?

It takes a bit of practice to put the tents up every night but once you have mastered it you will be able to put them up in minutes.

If you want to explore the game parks, the Okavango Delta, Moremi game reserve, the Chobe National Park and the Kalahari Desert and travel around Botswana you will encounter rough roads and tracks. You will need a 4x4 to navigate your way around.

The best time to travel is between May and September where you will avoid the wet weather.

No, there are other options such as the popular truck camper where you sleep inside the vehicle. No need to put up the roof tents.

We suggest too to stay in one of the many luxury lodges or at least take advantage of their restaurants.

How Do I get a Discount on Renting a 4x4 in Botswana?

The earlier you book your 4x4 camper rental in Botswana the cheaper it will be.

Avoid one-way rentals. Pick up and return to the same location to avoid relocation fees.

Discounts and special deals are always displayed when you start to find out about costs on our booking engine.

There are three depots in Botswana:

  • Gabarone rent from either Britz.
  • Kasane rent from either Britz or Caprivi
  • Maun rent from either Britz or Caprivi

We recommend only driving during daylight hours.

The animals are on the move during the night and early morning and dusk is one of the best times to spot them. Set up your camp before nightfall.

Yes you can. We can provide you with the relevant documentation to do so. Select the Cross Border Documentation that will allow you to take the camper into Lesotho, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, Zambia and Zimbabwe.

What Should I Take With Me When Renting a 4x4 Camper?

Take loose clothing that is not highly coloured. The more you blend into the surroundings the higher chance you have or spotting wildlife.

Sturdy boots, hat and a warm top for cooler evenings.

Don't forget a good camera, binoculars, laptop, chargers etc.

Stock up with food and plenty of water every time you are near a shop. The lodges have shops on site where you can buy the basics.

If you are used to using your phone to find your way around now is the time to learn to read a map. The signal is intermittant and you need to know where you are and where you are going so a map is the very best option.

There are several optional extras that you can pre-book. This saves time when you go to collect your camper. You can request any of these when you arrive at the depot.

No you don't need a special driving licence. If you haven't driven a 4x4 vehicle before we recommend that you take a course to familiarise yourself with the different gears that a 4 wheel drive vehicle has and how to use them and when.

You have to be at least 23 years old and not older than 70 years old.

Yes. Cancellation Fees for Britz: The initial deposit paid is non-refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges also apply: Fees in percentage of total rental amount. • If cancelled 27 – 11 days before collection : 25% • If cancelled 10 – 4 days before collection : 50% • If cancelled 3 days before collection or No show or cancellation on day of collection : 100%

Cancellation Fees for Caprivi:

Cancellation Fees: The deposit is non refundable. In addition to forfeiting your deposit, the following charges apply: · Any cancellation received within 33 days will be charged 15% of the total rental value. · 50% of total rental value will be charged if cancelled within 18 days before rental. · 100% of total rental will be charged if client cancelled within 3 days.

Insurance Options for Caprivi:

The Standard Rates includes Theft loss and collusion damage waivers up to the Excess Waiver. Options to reduce liability are listed when you book the 4x4. Note you may have to pay for extra cover to include windscreen and tyre damage

Note too that the insurance excess is double if accident occurs in Zambia, Malawi, Mozambique and Tanzania. Insurance excess must be covered by a credit card on collection of the vehicle.

Standard Cover:

This cover carries has an excess of US$3462.00. This must be covered by a credit card on collection. Standard liability cover does not include repair to or replacement of tyres and windscreens.

Super Cover offers full cover with nil excess. A security bond is still taken and is fully refunded when vehicle returned in good condition.

Yes, but there will be a relocation fee in most cases. These are often subject to the discretion of the depot manager especially in Canada and the USA. The costs will be itemised when you request a quote. Please contact us for your options.

Caprivi 4x4 Rental Botstwana

Tops Tips for Driving in Botswana:

You will see a lot of wild animals as you drive around Botswana. Keep a safe distance. Don't alarm them and don't get amongst a herd of elephants or too close to resting lions, water buffalo or hippos.

Keep food locked away.

Stay in designated campsites.

Stay quiet around animals as you observe them.

Don't invade other groups who are watching animals. Keep a distance.

Yes they have to be pre-booked and paid for in advance as they get busy.

Top up fuel and water whenever you can. Keep spare fuel in a jerry can. Ask locally for filling stations as these may be in villages or at lodges.

Boil water before drinking.

Driving through game parks and on safari is a slow and time consuming experience. Take extra time to allow for just sitting and watching animals and birds.

Travelling on main roads takes extra time as many are pot-holed and rough.

Many roads are just sand. Take advice on how to deflate the tyres to help you drive across sandy roads and find out how to re-inflate after you get back onto either sealed roads or tracks.
